BAPPC Submits Letter to The Honorable Nancy Pelosi Urging Support of Bills to Protect Our Coast

On September 6, 2019 the Business Alliance for Protecting the Pacific Coast submitted a letter to The Honorable Nancy Pelosi urging support of two bills that would permanently protect our coast from new offshore drilling. The letter was signed on behalf of over 4,000 businesses.

H.R. 1941, the Coastal and Marine Economies Protection Act, was introduced by Representative Joe Cunningham (D-SC) and Representative Francis Rooney (R-FL) and would place a permanent moratorium on offshore oil and gas leasing in the Atlantic Ocean, Straits of Florida and Pacific Ocean. H.R. 205, Protecting and Securing Florida’s Coastline Act of 2019 was introduced by Representative Francis Rooney (R-FL), and Representative Kathy Castor (D-FL) and would amend the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act of 2006 to make permanent the current moratorium that prohibits offshore oil and gas leasing off Florida’s Gulf Coast through June 30, 2022.

Both bills have received bipartisan support and will be voted on by the full US House of Representatives on September 11, 2019.
